Oftentimes when we think of a house, we are often spectators from the outside, looking in. But the best part of a house is the experience that comes from the  inside, looking out into your surroundings, your environment. This is what we wanted to establish with this proposal — the house as a medium or vessel to experience our direct surroundings better while feeling the comfort and enclosure of space. It opens up to areas of wind direction and where sunlight is best, it closes and serves as a buffer to the harsh afternoon sun, it gives height to enjoy views which would otherwise be covered, it closes off to areas where privacy is compromised, it is transparent and inviting where we can connect better with the landscape, it extends where shade is required, it shifts to bring light from above. All this together, paired with the unique shape and contour of the site, form the “outside”. The result is a very simple yet homely structure, a place that we hope our client will be able to call home.
